This is an ongoing longitudinal study of professional identity development among first year medical students at UF and FAU medical schools. Subjects are interviewed for about one hour at regular intervals. We are analyzing the data using qualitative analysis of the interview texts. Mid study we have discovered that COVID and Black Lives Matter movements have had a profound impact on the students. We are working on research papers on these two issues as well as overall themes of professional identity formation. An MD PhD student is leading the study. Medical student roles will be based on our needs and interest of the student but will include qualitative analysis of interviews using QSR NVivo to code interview themes and literature review.
