Research Project Description:
There is a growing body of literature on how specialty disrespect impacts medical students’ choice of medical specialty. I would like to expand on work done at University of Michigan, Georgetown and elsewhere to survey students at different levels of medical training on their experience of specialty disrespect and do an intervention which would introduce the concept and have people sign pledges to not participate in disrespecting comments. If interested this could be followed up in your 4th year to see if there has been an improvement. Research Project Description:
There is a significant knowledge gap in the care of perimenopausal patients. The student would use IDR or Cosmos data to determine what percentage of women with common perimenopausal complaints are prescribed hormone treatment and differences between primary care specialties such as family medicine, internal medicine and OB/GYN and even regional practice differences. This could help highlight the need for more education in order to expand treatment of these common complaints at the medical school and CME level.
